What is Collaborative Law?
A collaborative Mental Health Professional is a person that assists people going through a collaborative divorce. Collaborative divorce is a process in which both parties have agreed to the collaborative process over litigation. As we know litigation is costly, public and time consuming.
The Mental Health Professional assist parties through the emotional difficulties that arise in divorce. The MHP works with the parents on co-parenting plans and parenting transitions. A MHP may also be a Child Specialist that works with the children to assist them with the transition.

The collaborative process is for couples who want a civilized, respectful end to their marriage for the sake of all family members. If the following things are important to you, Collaborative Law could be the best process for you:
- You have control of your own divorce process and outcome
- You seek a civil, respectful, creative and individual process for ending your marriage
- You recognize the importance of future relationships – even after divorce.
- You believe it is important to protect children from the harm litigation can inflict
- You place a high value on personal responsibility
Collaborative Law, known in some states as “Collaborative Practice,” “Collaborative Divorce,” or “Collaborative Family Law,” is a solution-oriented alternative to traditional divorce. Instead of focusing on assessing blame for problems, couples focus on solutions to problems that best fit their competing and shared needs and interests
